Construction on two hydro stations on the White River is expected to begin this spring.

The Pic Mobert Hydro Power Joint Venture will involve two, separate run-of-the river stations south of Highway 17, just west of the Town of White River.

The two stations are expected to produce a combined total of 18.9 megawatts of electricity, possibly as early as the end of 2013.

Project spokesman Norm Jaehrling said there will be less white water and more flat water, but canoeists will still be able to navigate the river, which ends up at Lake Superior.
