MP Bruce Hyer (NDP, Thunder Bay – Superior North) continues to push for the return of passenger rail service in this region.
Hyer announced he intends to re-file a motion that calls for the resumption of Via Rail service when the House of Commons re-convenes next week. This comes in addition to a new petition drive and a Facebook group that now has almost 2,400
Hyer says it is the perfect time for a return of Via Rail, as bus service along the scenic north shore has been cut and the HST will soon boost gas prices for motorists.
Passenger rail service that ran through the region was discontinued in the early 1980s.
