Ice Dogs take Game 5, lead Stars 3-2

Ted Davis scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lead Dryden within a win of a second straight SIJHL title.

THUNDER BAY – For the second time this series, Ted Davis was the overtime hero for the Dryden Ice Dogs.

Davis scored 8:26 into the extra frame on Friday night on home ice, pushing the Ice Dogs to the brink of a Bill Salonen Cup title, the 4-3 triumph over the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars giving them a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Davis had also scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second.

Owen Belisle, Bradley Thrower and Brendan Gillis, who sent the game to OT with four seconds to go in regulation, scored for Thunder Bay.

Trevor Kavanaugh and Conner Mowatt had Dryden’s other goals on North Stars goalie Brandon Bodnar. Dryden can wrap up their second straight Superior International Junior Hockey League title on in Game 6 on Saturday night at Fort William Gardens.

The Stars are hoping to extend the series to a deciding Game 7 on Monday in Dryden.

Both teams have already secured spots in the Dudley Hewitt Cup, which the Ice Dogs will host.
