THUNDER BAY - Warm weather and melting snow could result in possible flooding for several townships south of Thunder Bay.
On Wednesday, the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook for the Township of O’Connor and the Township of Gillies.
According to a watershed conditions statement, significant ice jamming is occurring on the Whitefish River in the Village of Hymers and in the section of river between Hymers and Luckens Road.
These conditions could cause water levels to rise without warning. The Lakehead Conservation Authority is advising the public to exercise caution near the Whitefish River and home owners in the area to pay close attention to local conditions.
The Whitefish River has breached its banks in the past, most recently following heavy rains in July, 2015, that left at least 10 homes with flood damage.
