THUNDER BAY - Several thousand people are without power this morning, as the weather continues to wreak havoc in the city.

Thunder Bay Hydro is reporting between 4,000 and 5,000 customers in Northwood and Westfort areas are without power.

“There were trees on the line,” said Amanda Leonzio, customer service supervisor with Thunder Bay Hydro. “Crews are on site and working on it. They have an estimated time of about 10:45 to 11 a.m. to reconnect. Conditions are a little bit dicey out there. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong.”

There are also reports of another outage on Fort William First Nation due to a transformer failing. Leonzio said Thunder Bay Hydro crews have been dispatched.

“There is no word on how many customers are affected and whether it’s the entire reserve or just a small pool,” she said.

Leonzio added information on outages will be updated on the Thunder Bay Hydro website.

The public are reminded to exercise caution around downed power lines and to report any downed lines to Thunder Bay Hydro by calling the outage line 343-1002.
