THUNDER BAY — Chances look good that the upwards of 20,000 attendees expected to take in the Thunder Bay Blues Festival this weekend will need sunscreen rather than umbrellas.

Environment Canada is predicting a predominantly sunny sky and above-average temperatures from opening day on Friday right through to the festival's windup on Sunday.

Temperatures all three days are expected to max out at 26 or 27 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the forecast for most of the coming week, as well as at least the start of next week, calls for ideal summer weather.

However, gardeners hoping for a bit of rain should get their wish Wednesday evening into Thursday as a low-pressure system moves into the region briefly.

"But that sets us up at this point in time, for lots of sunshine right through the weekend and temperatures quite a bit warmer than normal. The normal high at this time of year is about 23," Coulson noted.

Environment Canada on Tuesday also released a summary of weather statistics for Thunder Bay in June.

They show the average temperature through the month was just slightly lower than the historic average for the month, but the city was slightly drier than normal, as it received only about 75 per cent of the usual June rainfall.
