THUNDER BAY -- Local Idle No More organizers held a candlelight vigil Wednesday night to pray for women who are lost and living, victims of murder, assault and sexual assault.
The vigil was in response to an alleged abduction and sexual assault of a First Nations woman that city police detectives are now investigating.
Joyce Hunter is one of the co-ordinators of the local Idle No More movement. She says the local chapter felt it needed to respond in two ways -- showing support for the victim and to let others know to protect themselves.
Organizers believe the recent incident, which has been described as and is being investigated as a possible hate crime, is an example of racism and oppression.
Police have yet to make an arrest in connection with this incident.
