A Waterloo, ON man is out-of-pocket $4500 after his conviction on charges of unlawfully killing a moose, and discharging a firearm carelessly.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the man reported to conservation officers on October 17, 2017 that he had a license to hunt a bull moose, but had inadvertently shot a cow moose on the Black Sturgeon Road northwest of Nipigon.
During the investigation, the officers learned that the hunter had stood in the middle of the road while he fired his rifle, which is another infraction under Ontario's hunting regulations.
In addition to the fine, a Justice of the Peace gave the man a one-year hunting suspension and ordered him to complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before purchasing another licence.
