THUNDER BAY -- Officials with the district health unit say it has laid a charge against a Thunder Bay catering business after people became ill from consuming food at a private function.

Nine of 25 people at the party on Sept. 26 reportedly suffered from cramps and diarrhea after consuming a beef dish supplied by Tim's Meats Deli.

Thunder Bay and District Health Unit officials say samples of leftovers from the meal confirmed the presence of bacteria in the dish.

It says that bacteria usually occurs when foodstuffs aren't maintained at appropriate temperatures.

None of the people affected required hospitalization.

The business is disputing the allegation that they were responsible for the problem. They say the food was cooked and delivered at the proper temperature.

They add that four other parties that day, attended by more than 150 people, received the same beef with no problems.
