Impaired driver arrested after crashing into home, fleeing scene

A weekend collision results in an impaired driving charge for a 34-year-old Thunder Bay woman.

The Thunder Bay Police Service has arrested the driver connected to a weekend collision involving a home.

Officers were originally dispatched to the scene of the collision in the 300 block of County Boulevard at about 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. The driver had fled the scene with the vehicle involved prior to police arriving.

When police arrived they observed significant damage to the home, which included damage to the interior of the kitchen. Both occupants of the residence were at home at the time of the collision.

Officers obtained a description of the vehicle involved and were able to locate it in the 400-block of Wentworth Crescent at about 6 a.m.

Police also located the suspected diver, and observed multiple signs of impairment by alcohol.

An investigation revealed the suspect was the driver of the minivan involved in the earlier collision. She was arrested and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters without further incident.

Analysis of the driver’s breath confirmed she was impaired by alcohol.

A 34-year-old Thunder Bay woman is charged with Operation While Impaired, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop After Accident, and Failure to Comply with Undertaking.
