Impaired driver found by police after fleeing crash site

KENORA, Ont. -- Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged a male following a motor vehicle collision in downtown Kenora.

On Saturday April 4, 2015 shortly after 11:30pm, the Kenora OPP received a call regarding a two vehicle motor vehicle collision. The suspect vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

Police patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle in the area of the Kenora Recreation Centre. There was significant damage to both vehicles, no injuries were reported at the time.

Upon investigation, it was determined the male driver had been consuming alcohol. The male was arrested and transported for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, Carlos Desousa, 31, of Saskatoon, Sask., has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b)CC. He was also charged with Fail to Remain under the Highway Traffic Act.

He is to appear in Kenora Court on May 28, 2015 to answer to the charges.
