RED LAKE, Ont. – Red Lake OPP are reminding the public of the dangers of drinking and driving after the small community saw two impaired driving incidents in as many days over the weekend.
Police credited calls from the public in alerting them to the incidents in the community, located around 550 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay.
On Saturday evening, OPP officers from the Red Lake detachment responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the municipality just before 8 p.m..
After failing a breath sample test, a Red Lake man, 25, now faces impaired driving charges with blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.
Police responded to another call of a possible impaired driver just before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. As a result of an investigation, an Ear Falls man faces charges of impaired driving charges with blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, and failure to comply with a probation order.
Both men have been released, with court appearances set for Aug. 27.
In a release, the OPP urged members of the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 9-1-1 in emergency situations, or 1-888-310-1122.
