WAWA, Ont. – A Sault Ste. Marie man faces impaired operation and stunt driving charges after a traffic stop near Wawa on Monday.
A 33-year-old man was stopped just before 8 p.m. after an OPP officer observed a pickup truck travelling northbound on Highway 17 “at a high rate of speed.” After the officer detected the odour of alcohol emanating from the driver’s breath, the man failed a breath test and was arrested and transported to the Wawa OPP detachment.
The man now faces charges of operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and racing a motor vehicle - excessive speed.
The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 6, 2020, in Wawa.
