THUNDER BAY — The mining company that operates the palladium mine at Lac des Iles, north of Thunder Bay, has made a donation to the George Jeffrey Children's Centre in Thunder Bay.

Representatives of Impala Canada visited the centre to deliver 250 youth and child-sized face masks.

Six-year-old Connor Swoluk, a client of the facility, joined some staff Friday as the masks were presented.

The centre's executive director, Cindy Levanto-Kawahara, said Connor gave a thumbs-up during a photo shoot because the masks will help keep both him and his clinicians safe while he's there for his appointments.

The boy is one of the more than 1,800 children seen at the centre each year.

Connor has been a client since he was two years old.

His mother Ashley said "The centre has been a huge support to Connor and our entire family, and he's come such a long way. Watching him climb up the stairs today was amazing to see, and proof of his progress."

Impala recently purchased a few thousand youth masks from a small business in Thunder Bay.

Vice-president Erin Satterthwaite said the company is happy to donate and deliver them to organizations such as the George Jeffrey Children's Centre.
