Incident leads to closure of section of downtown north core

Cumberland Street, between Pearl Street and Park Avenue, closed to traffic.

THUNDER BAY -- A heavy Thunder Bay Police and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue presence has closed off a section of the city's downtown north core.

Police and fire crews are concentrating efforts on Tuesday night outside a Cumberland Street building and have closed parts of Park Avenue and Pearl Street, as well as the section Cumberland that runs between the two, until further notice.

Police have set up a command post unit.

The public is advised to avoid the area if possible. There is no threat to public safety at this time.
