Inflation shows modest local rise

The national rate of inflation jumped significantly last month, but made only modest gains locally. Statistics Canada reports that the inflation rate rose to 1.3 per cent in December, up from one per cent the month before.

Statistics Canada reports that the inflation rate rose to 1.3 per cent in December, up from one per cent the month before.

That’s the biggest jump in inflation since last February. The rise in gasoline prices is considered a major contributor to the inflation jump.

In Thunder Bay the rate of inflation rose from 0.1 per cent to 0.3 per cent. That’s the second lowest rate in the country behind Calgary.
