THUNDER BAY -- Management at Intercity Shopping Centre confirms they are in negotiations for the space being vacated by HMV Records.
However, the mall's front office would not say who the negotiations were with when contacted on Monday morning.
On Sunday it was announced that Sunrise Records was taking over 70 former HMV locations, although according to The Canadian Press, the company won't be moving in to at least 30 former HMV sites across the country.
Sunrise Records opened its first store in 1977 and at present operates nine stores in Ontario, the closest to Thunder Bay in Timmins.
A Sunrise spokesperson contacted Monday by Thunder Bay Television said they were still in negotiations and would not be revealing the entire list of locations they'd be taking over before week's end.
The company, which sells vinyl, DVDs, CDS and other music and entertainment merchandise, bills itself as one of the "only Canadian-owned, independently operated record store chains left in all of Canada."
HMV is expected to close its doors in Thunder Bay by the end of March. The company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.
Last week it was announced that Marshalls would be taking over the HomeSense space at the mall, with the latter joining Winners Apparel at a mega-store location at the Thunder Centre.
Mall officials also announced in recent months Sephora would be opening at Intercity Shopping Centre.
