Expedia.ca has published an article promoting Thunder Bay as one of North America's top "must visit" hockey towns.
Thunder Bay is among 22 cities across North America featured in the story.
In a news release, officials of the travel website say the locales were chosen for their connection to the iconic sport, either through deep history, unique attractions, loyal fans, or contributions to the sport.
The cities noted in the article are not listed in any particular order, but Thunder Bay is the first Canadian centre that's highlighted.
Expedia says over 90 NHL players were born in the Thunder Bay area over the decades. It also gives a plug to the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, where visitors "can learn why Thunder Bay has produced the most NHL players per capita" of any community in Canada.
The executive-director of the sports hall, Diane Imrie, told tbnewswatch.com that she learned about the story this morning. "We were really thrilled to see that. We all know this is a great hockey town, and now the world, through Expedia, which is a very popular website, is going to know. So it's wonderful for the city and it's wonderful for the Hall of Fame.
The article quotes Thunder Bay tourism development officer John Cameron as pointing out that local NHL players have had their names engraved on the Stanley Cup four out of the last ten years.
Other Canadian cities featured in the story include Edmonton, Vancouver, Flin Flon, MB and Windsor, NS among others.
