Firefighters say they believe someone lit a phonebook on fire before tossing into the hallway of a south-side apartment Wednesday night.
Officials with Thunder Bay Fire Services say three pumpers responded to the reported fire at 625 Simpson St. just after 11 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters say a resident of the apartment building removed the burning phone book from the hallway, and firefighters on scene put out the blaze.
Firefighters then ventilated the building to clear it of smoke.
Moments later, firefighters say a vehicle fire was reported just one block away from the apartment building on Hardistry Street.
The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames before firefighters put it out.
No injuries were reported as a result of the two fires. Both the fire department and city police are investigating the fires.
