ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK, Michigan — Additional firefighting resources were summoned to Isle Royale National Park after a wildfire broke out on the weekend.

The National Park Service said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it's asking anyone who was in the area and may have information to come forward anonymously if necessary.

Campgrounds were evacuated, while other park visitors were contacted and brought to safety.

Numerous camping areas and trails were closed.

In an update issued Monday, the NPS reduced the estimated size of the fire from 11 acres to just under six acres.

It said park personnel assisted by 10 wildland firefighters remain on the scene.

A waterbomber was also used on the fire.

There was no estimate as to how much of the blaze has been contained so far.

Isle Royale National Park is about 50 kilometres south of Thunder Bay.
