Neighbours say they’re angry and frustrated by the noise at a new trampoline park and want the city’s help to keep it down.

Robert Rickards came to city council with nearly 20 signatures Monday night saying residents of Northern and Southern Avenue are fed up with loud music coming from the Lowery’s Sports Dome ever since Aerosports Trampoline Parks moved in earlier this year.

Along with the volume, Rickards said the bass, which can happens erratically anytime between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. every night, makes it nearly impossible to sit outside of his home or have guests over. It’s also keeping neighbours awake.

“It is day after day,” he said. “It can be very stressful.”

“It’s sporadic , it’s erratic. You’d have to come and live at any of our houses to live with it.”

The area is also overwhelmed at certain times by noise levels from events at the CLE Coliseum.  Rickards said they’ve called police but have been told it’s a city bylaw issue, which only has enforcement until 4:30 p.m. Rickards said sometimes he and his wife have to leave their home to escape the noise.

“There’s no way we should have to be forced out of our house,” he said.

The residents want the city to strengthen its noise bylaws. Council voted to have a report come back in October.

City manager Tim Commisso cautioned council though that there’s not much administration can do unless council gives specific direction. He said the bylaw department has about 1,700 registered complaints a year and very few of them are because of noise.

“We have no authority, no ability right now other than what council has approved in the budget,” he said.

Coun. Ken Boshcoff and Coun. Joe Virdiramo said the issue will be raised at the CLE’s board meeting July 29.
