THUNDER BAY – ThunderCon 2022 is going to be featuring, Jamie and Krista Young, of J&K Creations, formerly of Foamtastic fame as guest creators.
“By providing us with another art commission, J&K Creations are helping us continue a ThunderCon tradition,” says chair, Kevin Taylor, “They previously brought the Stargate in 2018 and the Iron Throne in 2019, so we are eagerly looking forward to another classic build unveiled at our convention.”
Jamie first attended FanCon in Thunder Bay in 2014 (as Foamtastic Creations) to showcase the props that he had been building at home in Atikokan.
He became a featured guest of ThunderCon in 2016, 2018 and 2019, bringing a new creation every year and demonstrating how he created fan favourites like BB8 and Wall-E in addition to the Stargate and Iron Throne.
“J&K’s prop work is being noticed not only regionally, but internationally,” says media director, Heather Dickson. “They were guests of Dryden’s JoyCon in 2018 and Winnipeg’s FanQuest in 2019. Jamie’s props have also been showcased in Star Wars Insider Magazine as well as features on Shaw Spotlight and the CBC. In 2019, Richard Brake (the Night King from Game of Thrones) was thrilled to finally sit on this amazing replica of the Iron Throne!”
In 2020, Jamie and Krista established J&K Creations which now includes not only the props, but also spray paint art and prints, Book Nooks and pyrography including boxes and wall hangings.
Jamie and Krista will be around to answer questions and may even do a panel or two on prop building along with bringing in their ‘new secret build,’.
“Not only are we thrilled that ThunderCon is back, but we are also delighted to once again be part of it,” says Krista. “We are currently hard at work on several projects, one of which will be revealed at ThunderCon. We can’t wait to see everyone and get our geek on!”
ThunderCon 2022 runs Sept. 17 and 18, at the CLE grounds. For more information, visit their website or contact chair Kevin Taylor.
