John Street home damaged in early morning fire

Initial reports of up to three people inside the townhouse proved false.

THUNDER BAY -- A John Street home suffered extensive smoke and fire damage in an early morning blaze.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, in a release issued on Friday morning, say they arrived on scene at about 12:20 a.m., finding thick black smoke and flames pouring from the townhouse.

Neighbours on scene reported there could be up to three people inside.

A total of 23 firefighters battled the fire, which was quickly brought under control. No one was found inside the home after two searches.

The fire is currently under investigation.
