Officials at Thunder Bay's Keefer terminal are hoping for an early start to the shipping season.
Harbour Master Guy Jarvis says an ice-breaker is currently working near the break wall and should finish up by the end of the week.
The first vessel is expected to make its way into the port Monday, with nine more also expected next week.
The first international vessel is on track to be here at the beginning of April.
