Thunder Bay Police Service Media Release

It is that time of year again when shoppers will be out in full force trying to get their Christmas gifts bought and ready for the big day.

The Thunder Bay Police want to take this opportunity to remind shoppers to be cautious with their personal belongings such as purses and items in bags they have just already purchased.

With the high volume of people that will be in stores over the next week, it can be difficult to keep an eye on items you may have put down. Unfortunately there will be a few people out there looking to take advantage of inattention.

It is also a good practice to not leave valuable in your vehicle over night or while you are out shopping. Most property thefts are crimes of opportunity and we all must take the steps to minimize the opportunity for a theft to occur.

And it goes without saying, if you are out enjoying the many festivities that the holiday season brings, make sure you plan in advanced for a safe ride home.

Be alert, be cautious and a have a happy holiday.
