THUNDER BAY -- With just two days left before Christmas, time is running out for the Salvation Army's 2016 Christmas Kettle Campaign.

So far, the campaign has managed to raise $164,000, but that’s about $25,000 short of their overall target.

The money raised helps fund many of the programs that the Salvation Army offers.

Major Lori Mitchell said if they don't meet the goal by Christmas Eve, some programs could be cut back.

“It just means that we have to evaluate everything that we are doing because that money is critical to those programs,” Mitchell said.

“We do get a little bit of government funding but very little, so we really rely on the community support for the community programs.”

Mitchell added not making the target could mean pulling back on some of the programs, but the needs are great and they want to be able to meet those needs.

The kettles will be out in the community until 1 p.m. Saturday, but donations can still be made online or by calling the Salvation Army office.
