Kilted hiker finishes his cross-Canada walk for reforesting the Scottish highlands

Michael Yellowlees endured a 'gut-wrenching' week in Northwestern Ontario when his dog was lost in the bush.

ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. — Michael Yellowlees and his canine companion Luna have completed an epic expedition from Canada's west coast to the east coast.

The pair hiked 8,000 kilometres to raise over $60,000 for the Trees for Life charity to help reforest the Scottish highlands.

They completed the trip at Cape Spear in Newfoundland and Labrador on Sunday.

Their adventures included what Yellowlees described as a "gut-wrenching" week in Northwestern Ontario in July when Luna was lost in the bush near Namakan Lake, east of Fort Frances.

The 32-year-old man wore a kilt every day of the trip, no matter what the weather conditions.

At the completion of his journey he told the Canadian Press he was grateful for the kindness of strangers throughout the nine-month expedition.
