THUNDER BAY — The newest member of the Thunder Bay 50/50 winners' club is from southwestern Ontario.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation on Friday announced that Kitchener's David Sloane was the winner of the March jackpot, collecting a prize of just over $1.5 million.

“I’m floored. I’ve been working for 40 years and didn’t know when I could retire,” he said in a statement issued by the hospital foundation. “My partner and I were hoping to buy a house together. I wasn’t in a place to go out in the market and this changes everything dramatically.”

Sloane's winning number was part of the $75 ticket bundle he purchased.

The Thunder Bay 50/50 draw has awarded more than $21 million in prizes.

“We’re grateful this month’s draw took off the way it did,” hospital foundation president and CEO Glenn Craig said. “From the start, it was our fastest growing regular monthly draw ever."

The April draw will have $25,000 in early bird prizes, including a $10,000 draw on April 5. The April jackpot draw will take place on April 28.
