THUNDER BAY – Gil Labine is the new board chair at the Northwest Local Health Integration Network.

The Thunder Bay lawyer takes over the role from Joy Warkentin, whose term ended in January 2016. The appointment was made by the Public Appointments Secretariat of the Province of Ontario.

Labine, in a release issued Monday by the LHIN, said he’s committed to the improvement of health care in Northwestern Ontario.

“I look forward to working with the board and our stakeholders in advancing health care transformation in our region and going forward with the Patients First agenda to improve access to quality service and health outcomes for patients and their families,” Labine said in the release.

Dan Levesque had filled the role on an interim basis for more than a year.
