The Thunder Bay labour monument has officially moved into a new space.
The three-tonne monument was formerly located outside the Lakehead Labour Centre. But with that building soon to be demolished for commercial development, the monument was moved to the Finnish Labour Temple.
The monument was lowered into its new home yesterday afternoon at the corner of Algoma and Bay Streets, and already it’s been getting a lot of attention.
Within less than a day being there roses and tobacco have been placed on the monument.
Finlandia Association vice-president Ron Harpelle says the monument appeared to be headed into storage. That's when the Finlandia group offered to re-locate it, as it represents an important history.
