THUNDER BAY – Water levels on Lake Superior are down seven centimetres over last year at this time, but still well above the average beginning of May average of the past century.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority on Wednesday said water levels on May 4, 2020 are seven centimetres below last year’s measurement, and 12 centimetres shy of 1986's record high, but 31 centimetres over the average and the fourth highest on record.

“Lake Superior water levels fluctuate seasonally, therefore as expected, levels will continue to increase into the summer. Water levels on Lake Superior are expected to remain above average for a prolonged period of time,” the LRCA said in a statement.
