WATERLOO, Ont. -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves women's basketball team remains winless after five games.

They came close on Friday night.

Tiffany Reynolds had 14 points to lead the way for LU, but it wasn't quite enough to fend off the host Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, who squeaked out a 53-49 win, dropping the Wolves to 0-5 on the season.

The two teams were tied 47-47 with less than three minutes to go, but Cassidy Hirtle, who led all scorers with 20 points, hit a pair of free throws that put the Hawks in front for good with 2:58 to play.

Reynolds made a layup with 65 seconds left on the clock to pull the T-Wolves within a point, but missed a game-tying layup on Lakehead's next possession.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night.

The game marked the return of long-time forward August Ricketts, brought on board for depth. Spain's Paula Lopez also made her Lakehead debut, finishing with nine off the bench.
