THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead District School Board has approved a four-year strategic plan, focusing on the three principles of belong, succeed and reconcile.

Under the area of belong, the board strives to provide environments where everyone belongs. For succeed, the plan states, “We hold high expectations for all learners.

And reconcile is the board’s commitment to a “spirit and journey of reconciliation.”

The plan was approved earlier this week at the board's regular meeting on April 22.

In a news released issued April 25, school board chair Leah Vanderwey said the creation and monitoring of a strategic plan is an important role for trustees.

“It provides the basis for all decision-making across our board,” she said. “Providing environments where everyone belongs, holding high expectations for all learners while continuing on the journey of reconciliation, this new strategic plan reaffirms our commitment to the success of every student at Lakehead Public Schools.”

The strategic plan also outlines the board’s Indigenous education framework that prioritizes Indigenous education throughout its strategic plan.

“It commits to a spirit of reconciliation, a journey requiring constant focus, energy, and commitment to collectivity and inclusion while confronting the historical and present marginalization of Indigenous peoples,” the document states.
