WINNIPEG -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves women's basketball team were feeling good this week, thanks to a chance encounter with legendary Canadian crooner Michael Buble.

The encounter happened on Friday in Winnipeg, where the OUA team was in town to take on the Manitoba Bisons. The team was out celebrating forward Emily Pokrant's birthday when they ran into Buble, best known for songs like Sway, Everything and It's a Beautiful Day.

"This is a message for Lakehead women's basketball," Buble said, taking over a team member's phone and filming a video later posted to the team's Instagram.

"It's Michael Bubble, Booble, Buble, and I'm with my best friends. They asked me to join the team, but apparently I wasn't good enough. Here they are."

Buble then panned the camera to a group of players and coaches seated a table in the restaurant.

"I wish you lots of luck and love and be healthy and God bless and come out here and have fun and get home safe."

The team went on to defeat the Bisons 76-70 to pick up its first preseason win, with Tiffany Reynolds scoring 23 and Lily Gruber-Schultz hauling in 11 rebounds in her return to the team.

"A Michael Buble encounter and the first W of the season in the same day? A great start to the weekend," the team posted to Instagram.
