THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers goaltender Pierce Dushenko has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. players of the week for the period ending Oct. 25.
In two starts last week the 20-year-old Coquitlam, B.C. product won both of them helping Fort Frances move back into top spot in the SIJHL standings.
Dushenko began by stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced last Tuesday as the Lakers earned a 3-2 road victory vs. the English River Miners.
Then on Saturday night he kicked out all 27 attempts he faced to post his league-leading second shutout of the season as Fort Frances blanked the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars 3-0 at Ice for Kids Arena.
Dushenko leads all SIJHL netminders in wins with six and sits second in goals-against average at 2.35 and third in save percentage at .920
Also earning consideration for Amyotte’s player of the week honours was, Tanner Watt (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Riley Corbin, (G) Thunder Bay North Stars; Alex Burke, (G) Minnesota Iron Rangers and, Reid Kilburn (G) English River Miners.
