Landlord ticketed after illegal apartment complaint

The fire department found no smoke alarms in the unit.

THUNDER BAY — A complaint about an illegal apartment has resulted in a city landlord getting a ticket from the fire department.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue conducted an inspection at an Ontario Street residence after receiving a complaint about an illegal apartment in the basement.

The apartment had been constructed without a permit, and is not allowed under the zoning bylaw..

Because it wasn't equipped with smoke alarms, the building's owner received a ticket that carries a set fine of $360.
