THUNDER BAY -- The Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit is open to the public for the final time this week.
The Friends of Chippewa Park are helping make the animals available for viewing during the entire March Break.
Last month, city council voted 10-to-2 to close the wildlife exhibit, at an annual cost savings of $83,000 dollars.
The Friends group started a petition, and collected more than 1,200 signatures, but it wasn't enough to save the exhibit from budget cuts.
The City plans to begin transferring the animals to other zoos in May, once the exhibit has closed.
A few of the older animals will stay at the park until the end of their natural lifespans.
The former president of the Friends of Chippewa, Bill Lafontaine, said they wanted to give the public one last chance to visit.
The exhibit is open each day until Sunday, from 11 until 3:45.
