Lawrence Timko announces he will run at large

A longtime former member of Thunder Bay city council has had a change of plans about his plans for the upcoming municipal election in October.

A longtime former member of Thunder Bay city council has had a change of plans about his plans for the upcoming municipal election in October.

Lawrence Timko originally filed nomination papers to run in the McKellar Ward, bu he's now decided to run for one of five at-large bids instead.

As of Friday morning, longtime labour activist Paul Pugh is the only declared candidate in McKellar Ward. Timko said he prefers to run at large because it makes him accountable to the entire city.

He said he doesn't want to stand in the way of Pugh's council bid because he admires the union leader's efforts to bring jobs to the local Bombardier plant.
