Thunder Bay Lawyer David Shannon will be officially appointed to the Order of Canada in Ottawa Friday.

Shannon, who uses a wheelchair for mobility, is being recognized for his commitment to human rights and community services.
But in an interview with CKPR Radio Thursday, Shannon said that was only a part of the reason for the honours.

“I recently had the world-record sky dive, was the first wheelchair user to the North Pole,” he said. “All of that has been about empowering people and talking about the potential of all individuals.”

Shannon also received the Order of Ontario earlier this year.
