THUNDER BAY — Residents can expect two leaf and yard waste curbside collections this spring.
The first curbside collection will occur between May 13 and 23, with the second from June 10 to 20.
During these times, the city will only accept waste in Kraft paper bags, available at most hardware and grocery stores. The bags must weigh less than 18 kilograms each.
“We’re offering two spring collections to give residents more flexibility and convenience,” said Jason Sherband, the solid waste and recycling services manager, in a media release.
“We’re pleased to expand this service. Having two collection dates means more opportunity for residents to tackle yard work on their own schedule and deal with their leaf and yard waste easily.”
On collection days, residents can also leave brush and bundles of branches that are less than one metre long, 61 centimetres in diameter and tied with twine at the curb.
The city said there is no limit on the number of bags and bundles for leaf and yard waste collection, but grass clippings will not be accepted.
Residents must also place the waste at the curb prior to 7 a.m. on their regular recycling day, as indicated on their waste collection calendars.
The new 2024-25 waste and recycling collection calendar should arrive in the mail in early to mid-May.
Residents can visit the city’s website for more information on leaf and yard waste collection.
The city also reminds residents that they can check their collection dates at any time or sign up for free reminders online.
