THUNDER BAY — Despite the narrowness of veteran MPP Bill Mauro's defeat in the provincial election, the Liberal party does not plan to request a judge to order a recount.
Mauro was defeated by NDP candidate Judith Monteith-Farrell by a margin of only 81 votes in Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
A spokesperson for Mauro said Monday that an appeal is not in the works.
Under Ontario's Elections Act, an application for a recount must be made by the returning officer for an electoral district if the difference between first and second place is fewer than 25 votes.
A recount supervised by a judge may also be held if a candidate or any elector believes that a ballot has been improperly counted or improperly rejected.
