With the official grand opening of the new Mary J.L. Black Library less than two weeks away, library officials are asking for help to reach their fundraising goal of $250,000.

Mary J.L. Black has been opened to the public since the beginning of May. Chief Librarian Barbara Philp says their campaign is still about $14,000 short and she's challenging city residents to help them reach the goal by the June 11 grand opening.

The library committed to the fundraising goal last October, and people from across the city have been chipping in.

Philp says fundraisers are always difficult, but she's confident Thunder Bay will come through.

The new library on South Edward Street was built at a cost of just more than $5 million.
