SHUNIAH, Ont. — No one was injured after lightning started a fire in a seasonal residence at Amethyst Harbour on the holiday weekend.
Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services says the summer home on Cliff Avenue was destroyed in the Saturday morning incident.
A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect when lightning struck the single-storey residence.
The fire department says a large hole was found in the floor of the structure, and a nearby tree was split nearly to the ground.
Firefighters received the alarm from neighbouring property-owners at about 12:45 a.m., but arrived to find the building already engulfed in flames.
The fire was extinguished by about 4:00 a.m..
