THUNDER BAY – A regional advisory meeting for the inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous Women and Girls will be held in Thunder Bay from April 19 to April 20.
The Commission of Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls announced a total of seven sessions. Other host communities include Whitehorse, Edmonton, Halifax, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and northern British Columbia.
A family advisory circle will be held in Montreal on May 9 and May 10.
Representatives of the inquiry will spend three days in each location meeting with families and survivors, as well as other frontline organizations. They’ll also meet with regional political leaders in preparations for the hearings, which the government says is a first for Canada.
The first family hearings are scheduled for Whitehorse during the week of May 29. The government has yet to announce where other family hearings will be held, stating only they will release dates and times when they become available.
The schedule for upcoming regional advisory meetings is as follows:
Whitehorse: April 11, 12 and 13
Edmonton and Thunder Bay: April 18, 19 and 20
Halifax and Winnipeg: May 1, 2 and 3
Northern British Columbia and Saskatoon: May 16, 17 and 18
