Local food contract going ahead between city, farm

THUNDER BAY -- The city is getting on board with local food. On Tuesday it launched its first forward contracting program with a local farmer. The partnership will put local vegetables onto the menu at three local long-term care facilities.

On Tuesday it launched its first forward contracting program with a local farmer. The  partnership will put local vegetables onto the menu at three local long-term care facilities. A group of residents and city officials were at Belluz Farms learning more about local food to celebrate the launch.

Under the contract the city has with Belluz the city will purchase vegetables at a set price until April 30.

Owner, Kevin Belluz said the project was made possible in part to the Greenbelt fund.
