THUNDER BAY -- Lighthouses to the east of the city will be getting a facelift this summer, thanks to the Ontario government's Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.

An undisclosed amount of funding was announced Sunday for Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior that will support shoreline improvements to Shaganash (number 10), Porphyry and Trowbridge lighthouses.

The project will involve shoreline cleanups, improving trails to the lighthouses, completing dock improvements and repairing septic tanks and outhouses.

CLLS will purchase equipment, hire workers, and provide transportation services to and from the islands.

The group will continue to create a regional lighthouse trail, accessible for the general public.

No one from CLLS was available for comment on Sunday.
