How cuts to the CBC will impact Thunder Bay isn’t known at this time.
Last week’s federal budget called for a $115 million cut in funding for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation over the next three years, which includes 650 jobs.
Local Canadian Media Guild president Jolene Banning, representing employees at CBC-Radio Canada Thunder Bay, said they are still waiting to hear how Thunder Bay will be affected and probably won’t know until Tuesday.
About $43 million of programming will be cut from the broadcaster’s English services budget and 475 jobs will be cut during this fiscal year.
CBC is also looking at adding advertising to CBC Radio 2 and Espace musique. It’s also planning to speed up the shutdown of analogue TV.
Around 10,000 people are currently working for CBC nationwide.
