A local man faces a series of charges following an incident in Edmonton that led to the death of a police dog Monday.
Police say the series of events that led to the dog’s death took place after a 27-year-old Thunder Bay man crashed a stolen car and tried to flee from police in the Alberta city.
The dog died after being stabbed when it attempted to capture the suspect.
The incident has led some to call for changes to the criminal code to increase the punishment for attacking a service animal.
Paul Vukmanich, 27, of Thunder Bay, now faces several charges including animal cruelty.
