Police in Cochrane have charged a Thunder Bay man with traffic, weapons and drug offences Saturday.
Officials with the Cochrane detachment of the OPP say the charges follow a traffic stop on Highway 11 in Clute township around 2:15 a.m. March 16.
Police spotted the black 2012 Nissan Altima make a stop at a snow plow turnaround where police were conducting general highway patrol.
Police say officers made contact with the male driver to check to see if he was OK.
After checking the driver’s licence, police learned the man was under two separate suspensions.
Police arrested the man for driving while suspended.
Officers then found and seized 4.5 pounds of marijuana, and 79 ecstasy pills after searching the vehicle.
Police estimate the drugs seized had a street value of $32,000.
A 41-year-old Thunder Bay man is now charged with two Highway Traffic Act counts of driving while under suspension.
The suspect also faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, two counts of drug possession and two counts of trafficking.
The suspect remains in custody and has been denied bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 25.
