THUNDER BAY — A city resident faces multiple charges after a recent incident on an area highway in which traffic was impeded by a person falsely displaying a police badge.

OPP released details of the case Wednesday, saying it happened Friday, July 11 on Highway 587, the road that leads to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.

Police responded to a traffic complaint regarding a man blocking the road and allegedly showing a police badge.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old Thunder Bay man was charged with impersonating an officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and forcible confinement.

The charges have not been tested in  court.

The accused was released from custody pending an appearance before a judge in September.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
